This summer outreach studio partners with the community to incubate potential professional architectural projects. Once incubated, all or part of the project gets passed to a professional office or a licensed contractor for further development and/or construction, or else is taken on by Idaho Design Build

Students in the studio work collaboratively to provide consultation, schematic design, diagrams, and drawings that provide vision and possibilities for the community partner.

In 2021, the studio worked with Coco and Karl Umiker, owners of Clearwater Canyon Cellars. to develop a vision for a new tasting room and cased storage facility for the winery.

Clearwater Canyon Cellars is located in the Lewis-Clark Valley American Viticultural Area. This region, situated at the confluence of the Snake and Clearwater Rivers, just north of Hells Canyon, has a long history as a wine growing region. The estate winery itself is located on Umiker Farm, which has been operation for over a hundred years by the same family.

The site is dotted with historic structures, including the original farmhouse and outbuildings. The importance of this legacy was of clear importance to the owners, who have been faithfully preserving remnants of its past use, including wood from several large trees that have fallen over the years. These elements became a central component of several of the design responses.
