RIDENBAUGH ART GALLERIES

Moscow, Idaho - 2022

  • Ridenbaugh Art Gallery occupies the first floor of the Historic Ridenbaugh Hall building on the Moscow Campus of the University of Idaho. While the New Prichard Gallery is built in downtown Moscow, there was a need to update the long-neglected space for use as the Art and Design Programs primary public exhibition space.

Idaho Design Build worked with Art and Design Faculty, Campus Facilities, and University Architecture and Engineering Services, to develop a plan for the renovation of the ~3000 sf space. Students sanded away 80+ years of paint from hardwood floors, refinished them with a non-voc wax oil, sanded and painted walls, build new adaptable displays, opened up furred out walls covering an exterior window, enclosed mechanical ductwork, and designed and installed new lighting in the main gallery spaces. The exhibition opportunities were extended into the lobby with the creation of 4 distinct micro-galleries, lockable storage, and a refreshed stair. The Art Gallery is much more present from the outside now, thanks to a series of new window galleries, which display art for passers-by.
