This summer outreach studio partners with the community to incubate potential professional architectural projects. Once incubated, all or part of the project gets passed to a professional office or a licensed contractor for further development and/or construction, or else is taken on by Idaho Design Build.

Students in the studio work collaboratively to provide consultation, schematic design, diagrams, and drawings that provide vision and possibilities for the community partner.

In 2020, the studio worked with the owners of the historic Moscow Hotel Building in downtown Moscow, Idaho on a number of projects.

While the Idaho Design Build project on the property was cancelled due to the pandemic, students in a summer studio were able to develop solutions for a number of other spaces. These included a renovation of the building exterior, and host and bar areas, as well as visioning for an unfinished basement space. the projects paralleled the construction phase of an interior refresh of the primary tenant space, The Garden Lounge. Students were challenged to integrate their design ideas with that ongoing effort.
